Compliment

I’m sure that those of you on a weight loss journey remember your first compliment from someone telling you how you look slimmer, have lost weight or are looking good. Inside you feel accomplished and proud of your hard work. It may have been the first time in a long time that someone has told you something positive about your body. It is positive re-enforcement that you need to hear that will amp up your excitement about continuing forward with your progress.

Today was the first day in I can’t count how many years, that someone acknowledged my hard work and weight loss. I was talking to a friend that I hadn’t seen in a few months, and he right away mentioned how I had loss some weight. When you look at yourself in the mirror every day, it is hard to notice the changes that everyone else sees. We generally only notice big changes in ourselves like when our pants get a little loose, our muscles show a little more, when we take a look at the scale.

Getting a compliment lets us know that others can see things that we cannot notice as easily. It is easy to get in your head when you look in the mirror and look the same as you did yesterday. It is challenging to push yourself through the workout if you don’t think that you are seeing results. Turning down amazing food is even harder if you don’t think that one meal off track is going to derail you. Getting a compliment changes all of that. It sparks our continued energy to make more change in our life.

A compliment is encouragement.

Just today when I was telling my wife about what my friend had said about me losing weight, my wife stated that she noticed my shirts fitting looser. This isn’t something that I noticed but when she started pointing out the changes, they definitely were there. I am just wrapping up week three in this journey. When I get a few more weeks out is when the fun starts. I have been down this path before with weight loss and muscle growth. It is an exciting time when you can personally see all of the hard work that you have put in.

I know that when I get a couple months out the compliments will start popping all over the place. For right now, I am enjoying life, enjoying the journey that I am on and hopefully I can encourage you to do the same in your life. The process is way more fun than the food that I used to consume. The taste of a tightening physique and a body full of energy is way more fulfilling than a donut, a piece of pizza or a slice of cake. Keep pushing forward Dad Bod Done. family.
