You must be consistent to tackle many of life’s challenges. Being consistent starts at a young age. Babies learn to crawl by wiggling around until they get traction and are able to coordinate their body in one direction. After crawling for a while, a child desires to stand upright so they slowly move from crawling to standing. The body continually develops until the standing and holding on to objects turns into a full-on walk across the room.

The consistent evolution of our desires for what we want in life changes many times over daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. Our body is what houses our soul. The outward changes that our body shows are often inner changes bleeding out for the world to see. In other words, we wear our priorities and motivation on the outside of ourselves as well.

Yes, some people have amazing metabolisms. Take for example myself and my brother growing up. Same parents, same household, same diet and pretty much the same environment in every situation. I was the fat kid growing up. There were many times my brother ate way more than me and was less active, but for some reason his body stayed trim and fit. I got fat looking at a glass of water. Even though we had two different body types, I was still responsible for the way my body looked.

Be consistent in a good way.

I was the fat kid because I was consistently a bad eater. I chose pop and pizza over vegetables and water. I was a closet eater, not because I ate when no one could see me, but because I could eat the whole closet of food if I wanted to. I didn’t have the knowledge to understand my relationship with food nor did I have any guidance at home from my parents. All I knew is that I was the fat kid and my brother could eat what ever he wanted to.

After high school, I decided that I wanted to become some different. I wanted to get rid of the fat kid image and transform into someone else. Someone who I could be proud of when I looked in the mirror. Someone who others would see and instantly have respect for instead of being the butt of their fat jokes. I made the plunge into weightlifting and cardio. After hitting the gym for a while and dropping some substantial weight, I again dug in and realized that I needed to change my diet if I wanted to have more success.

After learning about being in a calorie deficit to lose weight, I stayed consistently on my food intake, cardio and weightlifting. By being consistent for several years, I was able to shed about 150 pounds from my all-time high. I had accomplished what I had sought out to do by being consistent for an extended period of time. There was no special secret or formula. It was coming up with a plan and sticking to it until I reached my goal. Pretty simple.

Now for the excuses.

Just like a great physique can be obtained by being consistent, so can a fat physique be obtained by doing the opposite. Life got busy, I got married, had kids, ran several businesses and turned my focus from turning into someone else to letting life turn me back into who I was… the fat kid, now an adult. After finding my old self for several decades I decided that I wanted to change back into the person who I desired to be after the fat kid. This is why I started DAD BOD DONE.

No longer am I the fat kid, but I have now accepted the title of dad bod recipient. Not a very classy or healthy accomplishment. So here I am, getting back on track, fighting every day to regain who I was and working hard to remove the dad bod title. It is time to take charge of my life and show myself that I still have it in me to transform back into man I once was. No more excuses, no more complaining and no more letting myself go. Back to being consistent by taking control of my life. DAD BOD DONE.!
